Easy Margarita Recipe

I love being skinny! I love being lazy! Let me show you how to do both with my Lazy Skinny Girl Margarita Recipe.

Usually, being lazy and skinny don’t go hand in hand. (sigh) Everyone knows that lazy people aren’t skinny, right? Well, unfortunately, this is not always true. My husband can eat chicken wings, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese every night and he always stays the same weight. (sigh) I eat kale smoothies and will always be the bigger dude in the relationship.

I do everything I can to shave off a calorie or two if it still tastes yummy. If you end up with a crappy imitation, I say just eat the original in moderation. Lucky for you my Lazy Skinny Girl Margarita is delicious and has close to the same amount of calories as a classic Skinny Girl Margarita – for a fraction of the cost.

Margaritas are a way of life her in Dallas. Did you know that the frozen margarita was invented here? Yep. We take our margarita’s very seriously. We have Tex-Mex restaurants on almost every corner. It’s true. I promise. A Tex-Mex restaurant can live or die by their margarita recipe. Don’t even get me started about salsa – that’s even more cut throat than margaritas!!

A few years ago the margarita game changed. A certain house wife came out with a margarita that was tasty and had fewer calories than traditional margaritas. I like how it tastes – I  just don’t love it. One of these margaritas runs 10+ bucks at a restaurant. At home a bottle is $14! I don’t know if you know this or not, but margaritas go down really easily. For that kind of money I wanted to love it! I found Mrs. Frankel’s recipe to a bit harsh for my taste buds.

After living in Dallas for so long, I have learned to appreciate a fresh, smooth, tart margarita. I absolutely cannot stand a cheaply made margarita. I can almost feel the triple sec mixed with cheap tequila burning my throat as I write about this. YUCK! NO! A good margarita (skinny or not) should be smooth. It should not attack your mouth with a sour patch kids style assault.

Once the skinny margarita caught on restaurants jumped on board with their own margarita recipe. Now days you can get a skinny margarita at most Tex-Mex restaurants. I think my biggest complaint is that they are super tart and a little harsh for my tastebuds.

I few years back I started experimenting with my own skinny margarita recipe. I wanted something I could make a goodly amount of in advance and serve as needed while entertaining. Try googling margarita recipe and you will find all kinds of listings for margarita recipes that are made 1 at a time.

That might work when it’s just Sammy and me. That shit doesn’t work when you have 10 friends over and they all want a ‘rita stat! Do any of these people who invent margarita recipes ever have to make them for their guests? If so, I want to know their secret on how they handle all the other stuff that goes down at a good party – like socializing!!

My Lazy Skinny Girl Margarita Recipe is easy and pretty straightforward. You can make the mix ahead of time. (I always make at least 2 batches) All you have to do is add ice, tequila and the Lazy Skinny Girl Margarita Mix. That’s it!

Now it can be Cinco De Mayo everyday of the year!! Olay!

  3. Use a lemon squeezer to juice the limes. I like to use a separate measuring cup to squeeze the juice into. It's easier and not as messy as putting it directly into the pitcher.

  7. Grab an 8oz(ish) margarita glass. Salt the rim (or don't) I prefer mine without salt. Fill up with ice. Add 1 shot of tequila. Don' be cheap - I recommend 100% blue agave. Don't be afraid to ask for a recommendation at your bevy store.
