TGIBKGF! (Thank God It’s Best Kitchen Gadgets Friday!) This week’s installment is dedicated to the “Gotta Have It, But Don’t Really Need It” class of kitchen devices. Or do you? Sometimes, I have trouble distinguishing the difference. I will let you be the judge. Now let’s get to what you came here for – Best Kitchen Gadgets Friday!!
Kitchen Gadgets Friday
Compac Jelly Knife Spreader – In response to the crisis of leftover jelly in the jar, Compac Industries has created the Jelly Knife. Designed exclusively to get all of the jelly or peanut butter out of the jar, this highly specialized tool is to be used only by the truly desperate. Its cousin the Mayo Knife Spreader helps to resolve the savory side of this epidemic. These devises prove that this is the time to be alive.
Chef’n Kale, Chard, Collard Green and Herb Stripper – The folks at Chef’n want you to be healthier, so they have invented a device that strips the edible leaves from the annoying stems on leafy greens, like kale, chard, collard greens, and herbs. This impeccably designed piece of plastic has various sized holes to fit the different sized stems. Chef’n was listening when your mom told you to eat your vegetables. Now, it’s even easier.
Chef’s Thumb – Like a giant thimble designed by Freddie Krueger, Chef’s Thumb slips over your thumb and has “Viper-Bite” technology (metal teeth) that grip whatever you are cutting. There’s even an attachment that fits over the top that can be used to peel vegetables… with your thumb! No more slippery escaping tomatoes. Gone are the days when that last slice of onion is thicker than the rest because you couldn’t hold it. Chef’s Thumb could potentially solve your family’s food waste problems single-thumbedly!
Westmark Germany Garnishing/Cocoa Castor – This device is actually kind of cool; I am just not sure that I want to open a coffee shop to make it worth it. The castor dispenses cocoa onto the top of hot cocoa or cappuccino. There are different dies that make different shapes, like a coffee cup, a smiley face, or a heart. The reviews are bit mixed, but apparently once you get the hang of it, it’s great.
Tovolo Pancake Pen – Have you ever wanted to make a copy of the Magna Carta in pancake batter? Well, Tovolo makes it easy. Their Pancake Pan lets you write anything you want in pancake batter. They show how you can write letters and numbers in batter. I am not sure how well skinny little numbers will flip over, but it will look cool while it’s cooking.
